Our AI Governance Framework

Responsible AI is part of our DNA
Established on the principles of Consent, Control, and Collaboration, our 3Cs framework has guided our decision making since 2017.
Consent
Consent is not just a policy. It is a system-level safeguard that protects user rights, maintains brand trust, and aligns with global compliance and data privacy standards across every deployment.
No individual's video, voice or likeness is ever used to create an avatar without explicit, documented consent. This principle is built into every part of the platform, from avatar creation to distribution and usage.
Customer data is never used to pre-train our AI models. Scripts, avatars, and videos are only used in accordance with the customer’s instructions. Custom avatars stay within the customer’s workspace and are not shared, reused, or made visible outside that context.
Control
Control is part of the platform architecture. It enforces responsible AI usage at every level and helps organizations meet internal governance, security protocols, and compliance requirements.
Workspace administrators define who can create, access, and share content. Every video goes through automated moderation, helping to block harmful or inappropriate content before it’s generated.
The content created always belongs to the customer. Scripts, avatars, and videos are never reused. Avatar access is confined to workspaces and governed by role-based controls and audit trails for secure management.
Collaboration
Responsible AI is not isolated work. It is a shared framework guided by collaboration, transparency, and operational alignment — helping customers succeed with systems they can trust and understand.
We work with regulatory agencies, standards bodies, and AI policy experts to build systems that meet ethical and legal benchmarks for development, deployment, and responsible innovation at scale.
Our customers help shape the roadmap. Their input informs features, policies, and documentation. We support them with training, reviews, and tools to meet the demands of complex governance environments.

The user can at any time request that a video/avatar is deleted, it can then take up to 90 days before it is permanently deleted from our system. If there is a request to delete specific data or delete all video/avatar/voice data on termination of an account, we will delete all copies permanently and provide confirmation of deletion. After termination of an account, if there is no request for deletion, the information will automatically be deleted within 90 days.
How do you ensure the explainability of the AI Solution?
Synthesia is committed to making its AI Components understandable and explainable to customers and their users. The inherent transparency of the Services, where AI outputs are directly tied to customer-provided inputs, ensures that discrepancies between expected and actual outputs are immediately apparent. This clear linkage between input (scripts, voice, likeness) and output (avatar performance) provides a straightforward explanation, allowing customers to both trust and effectively interact with its systems, but also to anticipate harmful scenarios and mitigate abuse.
