Google Slides are great for live presentations, but they are not ideal when you need to share information asynchronously, onboard new hires, or train teams across time zones.

A video version of your slides lets you add narration, visual continuity, and a human presence, so your audience can watch and learn on their own schedule.

While Google Slides does not offer a native way to turn a deck into a professional narrated video with presenters, you can easily convert your presentation into a video using Synthesia.

By exporting your Slides to PowerPoint and importing them into Synthesia, you can transform each slide into a scene with AI avatars, natural voiceovers, captions, and translations.

Here is how to convert Google Slides to video in just a few steps.

Step 1: Export your Google Slides as PowerPoint

Open your Google Slides presentation and go to File β†’ Download β†’ Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx).

EXPORTING MY SLIDES AS A PPTX FILE

This will download your deck as a PowerPoint file, preserving slide layouts, images, and speaker notes, which can later be used as your video script.

Step 2: Create a new video in Synthesia

LOG INTO SYNTHESIA

On the Synthesia homepage choose the option to Import PowerPoint / PPTX to create a video from your slides.

SELECT 'IMPORT POWERPOINT'

Step 3: Upload your PPTX file

Upload the PowerPoint file you just downloaded from Google Slides.

Synthesia will automatically detect each slide and prepare it as a video scene.

Step 4: Enable editable import

IMPORT OPTIONS

There are now 3 options. Here’s what each does:

  • Convert speaker notes into script
    • Takes the speaker notes from each slide and turns them into the scene script in Synthesia.
    • One slide’s notes β†’ one scene’s script (which the avatar will read).
  • Convert slides to editable text, shapes, and media
    • Imports slide content as editable elements on the canvas instead of a flat image.
    • Text boxes become editable text.
    • Shapes, images, and embedded videos come in as separate objects you can move, resize, recolor (where supported), or replace.
  • Add avatar to each scene
    • Automatically places a Synthesia AI avatar on every imported slide/scene.
    • Saves you from manually adding an avatar to each scene after import.

Before clicking 'Import' make sure that at least the first two options are turned on (like you see in the image above)

Step 5: Let Synthesia process your presentation

Your deck will now be processed. This usually takes a few seconds, but larger presentations may take a bit longer.

Synthesia supports decks up to 100 slides or 1GB in size.

Step 6: Review and polish in the editor

EDITING MY VIDEO

The editor is where you can turn your imported slides into complete, engaging videos using:

  • Realistic AI avatars and natural-sounding AI voiceovers to present each slide
  • Script-to-speech from your speaker notes with automatic timing across scenes
  • Built-in captions and subtitles with fully editable timings
  • AI translation to localize voiceovers and captions at scale
  • Brand controls including colors, fonts, logos, lower thirds, and reusable styles
  • Templates for common formats like training, onboarding, and product demos
  • Interactive video elements such as quizzes, CTAs, and branching scenarios
  • Collaboration tools like shareable links, comments, and version history for reviews

You can also enhance your slides with additional generative visuals directly inside the editor, and combine them with AI-generated video clips, images, and other assets to create more dynamic, story-driven presentations.

Step 7: Generate and share your video

Preview your full video, then generate it.

You can:

  • Download the MP4
  • Share a link
  • Embed it in your LMS, website, or knowledge base
  • Translate it into 160+ languages with AI voiceovers and captions

Frequently asked questions

Is there a way to convert Google Slides to video directly?

Google Slides does not natively export to narrated video with avatars. The most reliable workflow today is exporting to PowerPoint and importing the file into Synthesia, where slides become fully editable video scenes.

Do speaker notes become the voiceover automatically?

Yes. When you enable editable import, each slide’s speaker notes are converted into the script for that scene, which is then read by an AI voice or avatar.

Can I use this for training and onboarding videos?

Absolutely. This is one of the most common use cases. You can turn slide decks into structured, narrated learning videos with chapters, quizzes, and multilingual versions.

Is this available on the free plan?

You can import PowerPoint and preview the video for free. Final export and advanced features depend on your plan, but you can test the full workflow without upfront payment.

Can I translate my Google Slides video into other languages?

Yes. Once your video is in Synthesia, you can translate the script and regenerate the video in 160+ languages with localized voiceovers and subtitles in just a few clicks.
